Professor of Environmental Education at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC). He coordinates the Research Group on Social Pedagogy and Environmental Education (SEPA-Interea) (https://sepa.gal/). His main work falls within the field of Environmental Education, with particular emphasis on socio-critical pedagogical approaches in response to the climate emergency. He has taught in several degree programmes: Education Sciences (1989–1997), Pedagogy (since 1997), Social Education (since 1994), among others. He teaches subjects related to Environmental Education and Sustainability Culture, Sociology of Education, and Social Pedagogy, as well as master’s and doctoral courses linked to education for sustainability and qualitative methodologies applied to educational research in Spanish and international universities.

He is author or co-author of more than 300 publications in books and journals. He coordinates the Resclima Project (www.resclima.info). He has received the María Barbeito Award for Pedagogical Research (2009) and the José Manuel Esteve Award for the best pedagogical scientific article (2021). In 2025 he was awarded an honorary doctorate (Doctor honoris causa) by the Universidad Veracruzana (Mexico). Founder of the Galician Society of Environmental Education (2001). Founder and executive committee member of the Lusophone Network of Environmental Education (since 2005) and of the International Network of Researchers in Environmental Education and Climate Justice (since 2016). Member of the Permanent Seminar on Education and Communication for Climate Change of the National Centre for Environmental Education (since 2004).
