What is iARCUS? Is it ARCUS or iARCUS?
iARCUS is the Aquatic Environment Research Institute for Global One Health. The iARCUS acronym comes from the English name ARCUS —Aquatic (One Health) Research Centre— to which an "i" was added for the Galician and Spanish versions, and "US" was added at the end to align with the naming of USC's other research institutes.
How does the selection process work at iARCUS?
iARCUS, as a Research Institute belonging to USC, has its selection processes centralised at university level. Can I send my CV as an expression of interest to iARCUS?
As a public institution, we must follow criteria of transparency, promotion and equality when hiring our staff. Therefore, although you can send your expression of interest to iARCUS, we do not keep a record of CVs, so expressions of interest are not taken into account during recruitment. What services do you offer?
iARCUS offers a portfolio of technological services aimed at transferring the research and innovation carried out at the centre to the productive sector. The services offered include advanced chemical analysis of contaminants and waste using mass spectrometry, microbiological, virological and parasitological diagnostics of aquatic organisms, the development of autovaccines and diagnostic tools, and access to high-level biotechnology infrastructure for molecular analysis and advanced sample processing. Does iARCUS offer courses?
As a Research Institute, knowledge transfer is an essential pillar of our work. That is why we offer bespoke courses to companies, sharing the knowledge generated at the institute. Completing these ad hoc courses does not, under any circumstances, constitute formal (regulated) education. No certificate is issued upon completion, as we are not a teaching institution.
Where are you located?
The iARCUS headquarters are located on the Campus Vida of the University of Santiago de Compostela, at number 7 Rúa Constantino Candeira, 15705, Santiago de Compostela.
In addition to the headquarters, the institute's research groups and laboratories are also located in other buildings on the Campus Vida in Santiago de Compostela, such as the former Institute of Food Research and Analysis (IIAA building), at number 5 Rúa Constantino Candeira, USC's Centre for Biological Research (CIBUS building), the Faculty of Education Sciences, the Faculty of Pharmacy, and the Higher Technical School of Engineering. We also have a presence at the Santiago de Compostela Clinical Hospital and at the Campus Terra in Lugo.
