Bandín Matos, Isabel
Associate Professor
Address:
Dr Isabel Bandín has developed her entire professional career in fish pathology. After completing her doctoral thesis on a pathogenic bacterium of salmonids and postdoctoral training in Scotland and the Netherlands, she focused on the study of various viral pathogens. Over the past 20 years, she has coordinated a team dedicated to research on viral nervous necrosis (VNN, G. Betanodavirus), a pathogen that severely affects marine aquaculture in southern Europe.
Her numerous publications on virulence mechanisms, epidemiology, diagnostic methods, and prevention and control of this virus have established her as a global authority in the field. She has participated (and continues to participate) in various national and international research projects. She currently coordinates a work package in the Horizon project Curing European Aquaculture by co-creating health and welfare innovations (Cure4Aqua), focused on the development of vaccines against five fish pathogens, including VNN. In addition, she serves as a reviewer for several European research agencies and is a member of the editorial boards of Archives of Virology and Animals.
