Sergio Silva Bea (https://orcid.org/0000-0001-6383-6815) is a biologist and researcher specialized in microbiology and biotechnology. He is currently pursuing his PhD under an FPU contract at the Universidade de Santiago de Compostela, under the supervision of Professors Ana Otero and Manuel Romero. His thesis focuses on the study of the bacterial communication system quorum sensing in multidrug-resistant strains of Klebsiella pneumoniae, specifically on the regulation of virulence and biofilm formation.

He has recently completed a 5-month international research stay at Queen’s University Belfast, where he studied bacterial invasiveness in macrophages. His professional career began at Fundación Biomédica Galicia Sur, initially working on the development of a vaccine against Neisseria gonorrhoeae using bacteria as antigen delivery vehicles, and later focusing on the study of the SARS-CoV-2 infection model in a cohort of 500 patients.

His academic and scientific impact is reflected in the authorship of 8 Q1 publications, participation in 10 international conferences such as ECCMID and Eurobiofilms, over 180 hours of university teaching, and proficiency in advanced techniques such as CRISPR-Cas9, cell culture, and confocal microscopy.
