1st International Congress on Educational and Social Responses to the Climate Emergency

From the RESCLIM@TIEMPO research project, and within the framework of the ongoing collaboration between the SEPA-interea (University of Santiago de Compostela) and Eva-EASI (University of Granada) research groups, we announce and welcome you to the 1st International Congress on Educational and Social Responses to the Climate Emergency – 6th International RESCLIMA Seminar. Are we in time? In time for what?, to be held at the Faculty of Education of the University of Santiago de Compostela (Campus Vida, Santiago de Compostela) on 15, 16 and 17 April 2026.

We live in complex times; times of uncertainty and major global challenges. Now that the first quarter of the 21st century is over, we have exceeded all forecasts relating to the climate emergency and the crossing of planetary boundaries. In this context, time is a fundamental variable.
It is urgent to understand and situate ourselves in the great complexity and multidimensionality of these Times of climate emergency, which are also times of social, political, cultural, institutional and, of course, educational emergency. In this sense, it is more essential than ever to overcome the artificial barriers between school and community, between the cognitive and the sensitive, between scientific and civic language, in order to comprehensively understand the Educational and social times in which individual and collective life unfolds, in the diverse times and spaces of planetary geography. Likewise, we cannot give up on our present and future becoming Times of sustainability and cooperation, increasingly necessary to build new horizons and viable, desirable models of society. For that to happen, it is urgent to promote new Times of climate action, of citizen mobilisation, of commitment to social transformation, of environmental and climate justice.
Without claiming to lose the north or prescribe recipes to the south, or to reconcile east and west, in this Congress we adopt these four Times as cross-cutting axes or cardinal orientations to guide and provide frameworks for dialogue, diagnosis and collective design of proposals for the development of public policies — climate and educational —, relevant educational practices and new lines of research to address contemporary climate, environmental and social challenges.
