Aquatic One Health Research Center
At ARCUS we investigate the aquatic environment from a holistic perspective
ARCUS researchers bring a diversity of scientific & technolgical skills and knowledge that allows them to approach research on the aquatic – natural and aquaculture – environment from a holistic perspective, which justifies our Aquatic One Health scientific and technological approach.
Aquatic animal pathology, prevention and control, epidemiology, biotechnology, genomics and resource use, improvement of growth and reproduction, quality, food traceability, monitoring and surveillance of chemical contamination, animal models in biomedicine, as well as our experience in the field of pedagogy and social cooperation, environmental education and knowledge transfer, are some of the capabilities.

We have a wide range of technological services aimed at health in aquaculture, food safety and pollution of the aquatic environment.

Research that makes a difference
The productivity of ARCUS is demonstrated with more than 300 research projects and contracts with companies in the last 5 years, as well as the more than 400 publications in JCR journals with high impact factors.
ARCUS research teams cover aspects of R+D related to Biotechnology in Aquaculture, including Genetics, Microbiology, Pathology, Immunology, Physiology and Biochemistry, applied to the two main areas of aquaculture (fish farming and the cultivation of invertebrates, molluscs and crustaceans), but also the aquatic environment in general, the chemical analysis of pollution, food safety or environmental education, among others.
